Heartbeat High Vibes Challenge: Week 2
Here are my posts for the second week of the Heartbeat High Vibes Challenge. Each post is supposed to promote love over fear with each day’s theme (Relationship, Strength, Work, Nature, and Heal). Enjoy!
Relationship
Relationships are hard, guys. Relationships are especially hard to maintain through life’s challenges and changes. But, most things with my husband are surprisingly easy because there is so much love and respect there. We may fight about chores (ugh), but at the end of the day there’s nobody I’d rather go through life with. We balance each other out, and as cheesy and cliche as it sounds, he makes me a better person. Since being together we’ve gone through our highest highs and lowest lows, and have been there for each other through it all. I love being his wife.
Strength
Right after my friend Danielle and I told each other we were pregnant, she insisted we start taking private prenatal pilates lessons with Luisa (The Wellness Connection). Never in my life did I think I’d actually look forward to my weekly workout, but our Sunday workout has become my sanctuary. I’m both physically stronger and emotionally stronger being around these two bad-ass, warrior women / mamas. They inspire me with their own strength and give me the fuel to get through my week without worry or fear (or a lot less of it!) And occasionally my son gets to tag along to witness his strong mama.
Work
It was really hard to find an image for this post because my “work” can mean so many things. By day, I’ve been assisting / script coordinating on several (15!) TV shows for the past 12 years. Not every show has been an amazing experience, but I’ve certainly taken away something from every show I’ve been on. During that time I’ve also written a play, 2 features, 17 un-produced pilots, been hired to write a freelance episode of network TV, hired and paid to co-write a digital series, and wrote and produced the script featured above (whoo Cam Girls Series). It’s a lot of work, with not a whole lot to show for it. But, at the end of the day I’m beyond grateful that I’m getting to do the thing I’ve dreamed about doing since I was a kid. Yes, it’s challenging, and yes, I fear that I’ll never “succeed” in the way I want to, but I still have this sense of wonder that this is my job. And that fills me with so much joy and gratitude.
Nature
I grew up across the canyon from Malibu and during my moody teenage years, whenever I was feeling sad or lost, I would drive to the beach and let myself be calmed down by the lapping of the waves and the feeling of sand on my toes. I think when you’re witness to something bigger than yourself — like the ocean, or forest, or any other natural setting — it puts things into perspective in a big way. Suddenly my deepest fears or worries don’t seem as pressing or dramatic. “Look deep into nature, then you will understand everything better” -Albert Einstein
Heal
It’s about to get real meta up in here, but when I think about how I’ve best used love over fear in my life, especially to heal, my blog immediately comes to mind. I started writing my blog when I was at my lowest point emotionally. I was heartbroken, scared, sad, and felt like I had very little hope. So, I did what I’ve always done in those situations: I wrote. My blog started as a place for me to process the pain I was going through. Little did I know that I’d still be posting almost two years later. I’ve also had people near (friends, as well as people who I’ve lost touch with over the years) and far (people I’ve never met from around the globe) reach out to tell me how much my blog has meant to them. During my process of healing, I’ve been able to help others. I could’ve chosen to let that fear and sadness I was feeling consume me, but instead I tried to spread love and as a result, have received so much love in return. And for me, that has been the ultimate expression of love over fear.
